Paella. And not your run of the mill Coconut Pete’s pineapple paella, this was the real deal. Made in the traditional way just outside of the birthplace of the dish (Valencia) this was every bit as delicious as I had hoped. There is a funny story behind this meal too. I thought lunch was going to be bread, salad, cheese, olives, some seafood starters, and wine. It certainly sounds like a nice light and refreshing lunch to me. Nope, the hosts of our retreat then came out with this enormous dish of paella about three feet across. Good thing I have a second stomach reserved for just such an occasion. I ate myself into a nap that day it was so good.
